Alateen Literature

Members are encouraged to read Al-Anon and Alateen Conference Approved Literature and materials, including our Alateen Talk newsletter. Written from members' personal sharings, these recovery tools can help young people deal with their problems.

Alateen—a day at a time (B-10)

“The message of this collection of thoughts is simple:  ‘Yesterday is gone and tomorrow isn’t here, so I can only live for today.’  If we take time to think about that, we won’t have time for past regrets and worries about the future.  We’ll be too busy getting the most out of life, a day at a time.” (from the Introduction)

Alateen--Hope for Children of Alcoholics (B-3)

“This book tells the story of Alateen…their fears, their problems, their hopes, and their achievements….”  (from the Introduction)

Living Today in Alateen (B-26)

“By living today in Alateen, young people decide how to find contentment and even happiness, whether the alcoholic is still drinking or not.

“There are separate pages for each day of the year.  There is also a subject index to help find pages about certain feelings, ideas, and Alateen tools.  The tools of the Alateen program are to help us feel better about who we are right now, today.” (from the Introduction)

Courage to Be Me (B-23)

“Many of us in alcoholic families learned to toughen up and to grow up very quickly.  Or else we found ways to hide our feelings.  We felt as if we had to do these things just to protect ourselves, because we felt alone. "

“And then we found Alateen.”  (page 9)
